It’s curious to me that many people have no problem with Jesus but truly struggle with Christians. Likewise, many claim to be spiritual but not religious. We need to evaluate why the Jesus-following life is so unattractive to so many that have an interest in spiritual things. It has come to my attention that we are in dire need of a Christianoscopy...

What’s a Christianoscopy? An oscopy is an exam of the guts. It goes deep, and shows what’s really there. The results are what they are no matter what you want them to be. Christians, we need a Christianoscopy!

It’s a much needed exam that will be very uncomfortable but very telling. This exam will look at how Christians and their churches are viewed by those who don’t share the faith. We will also examine how Jesus called religion and its followers on the carpet every chance He got and how His life and His speech and even worse, His dinner companions stood in defiance to the religious of the day.

I must remind you, this will be uncomfortable...
Uncomfortable because we’ve built a whole philosophy and practicality of Christianity that often looks nothing like what Jesus taught or how He lived.
Uncomfortable because it’s much easier to be religious than Jesus-like.
Uncomfortable because it’s much safer to categorize people as ‘one of us’ or ‘not one of us’ as opposed to loving them the way Jesus does.

Uncomfortable simply because it is easier to do Church the way we have always done it.

This exam will also be telling because I’m afraid we may not like the results. And if we compare ourselves to Jesus we might just see how truly unhealthy we’ve become.

If we’re to be imitators of Jesus, then brace yourself....we’re about to go deep and it might get ugly!

It’s time for the exam.
